Despite the increasing popularity and rich history originating in ancient Egypt and ancient Greece, MMA were recognized as an official sport only in 2013, a year after the founding of the World Association of Mixed Martial Arts, which was the organizer of the championship.

According to Dmitry Khristyuk, president of the Federation of Mixed Martial Arts of Ukraine: “This championship – proof of unconditional popularity of mixed martial arts in the world. This is a great opportunity to once again prove that MMA – very spectacular sport, tough but not cruel, and with clear rules”.
