September 26-27 in Ivano-Frankivsk was held an international scientific-practical conference on the implementation of standards of palliative care, organized by Ukrainian league to promote the development of palliative and hospice care in collaboration with the International Fund “Renaissance”.
Representatives of Health, heads of hospices, doctors and experts discussed the need for the development and implementation of clear rules and requirements of palliative care, which will adhere to the employees of this sector.

One of the main topics of discussion was to provide adequate pain relief, as well as the clinical practice of using opioids as a basic standard of treatment of pain of various degrees. During the conference, doctors shared the first positive experience of using the tablet form of morphine, codeine and buprenorphine, passed by the Ministry of Health through the support of “InterChem”. Potent opioids – is absolutely necessary tool for physician treatment of severe pain in the majority of cancer patients. The combination of their pharmacological properties, the experience gained and affordability make these products a basic standard of analgesia around the world – said the doctors.

According to the organizers of the conference, palliative care in our country developed mainly by efforts of activists and volunteers. Until now, there was no state program that would ensure sustainable development and operation of the system of such aid. “But now Ukraine is in a favorable phase. If we succeed, we will make a decent selection and unite into the European family, which is extremely highly valued social standards. One of the areas – the development of palliative care. It is a long but necessary path, because the system is designed to leave no man alone with his problems”,- summed up the Chairman of the Board Ukrainian league to promote the development of palliative care Vasyly Kniazevych.
